Queen Delfin has only ruled three years, but she is failing already. The cost of shattering the Empire was a debt she cannot pay, and those who own the debt are squeezing tight. Her people revolt; the payments keep coming; and the fight for thrones draws in. The assassins are back too, determined as ever.

But with each effort to ease the pressure, the fortunes turn against her and the noose tightens. It’s almost as if the whole thing is orchestrated. So when she takes drastic action to break the cycle, the true threat comes into focus. This is an enemy way beyond her reckoning.
